Forty-eight black coal pieces are placed face down on the "hellish" chimney in the center of the game board. Players reveal one coal piece at a time while betting on the total value the next player will reveal, trying to avoid uncovering a devil. If a devil is revealed, the player loses all coal accumulated in that round, making it a high-stakes gamble where both risks and rewards can escalate quickly. The goal is to increase one's total wealth from the starting amount of 200 to over 1,600 to win.
