More than 2500 years ago, the Emperor of the Qin Dynasty decided to protect his fertile northern provinces from frequent barbarian invasions by building and connecting fortified strongholds. Players take on the role of one of the emperor's four officers, striving to enhance their reputation by constructing parts of the Great Wall to defend against threats, especially from the Mongols.

In this clever placement game, players alternately add pieces to the Great Wall, aiming to achieve a majority on the positive-point Chinese side while avoiding a majority on the negative-point Mongolian side. Each player has special cards to gain advantages or hinder opponents, and optional scoring cards can introduce alternative methods for point allocation.
