The game features simple mechanics that may still bring players to tears as they give points to others. It includes 98 cards with numbers 1-7 in seven colors, each appearing twice. Players start with a personal discard pile and must play a card according to the rules, ideally on their own pile, but they may have to play on neighbors' piles instead. If they cannot play or wish to avoid giving points, they can play a card face down, revealing a sad onion on the back. At the end, players count their cards while removing all cards of the same number before scoring. Special action cards can add excitement by allowing exchanges or modifications to the gameplay.
