VentoNuovo continues the system established in Moscow '41, focusing on the Northern Army Group's campaign in Operation Barbarossa. Players can choose to command either the German or Soviet forces, represented by colorful wooden blocks.

The game employs the same basic engine as Moscow '41, with adjustments for the unique northern conditions, and introduces Finnish allies who sought to reclaim territory lost in the Winter War.
