Leuthen: Frederick's Greatest Victory 5 December, 1757*
Drums & Muskets is a game system that recreates battles of the 18th century, from the introduction of the socket bayonet to the French Revolution. The first game in the series, Leuthen, places the Hohenzollern monarchy's existence at risk as Prussia teeters on the brink of collapse after a series of defeats. Players command a smaller army against an opposing force nearly twice their size, facing a desperate battle before winter sets in. The designer, Frank Chadwick, has crafted a straightforward game mechanic that seamlessly combines command control, maneuvering, and morale with the uncertainties of combat.
Game data includes a complexity rating of 3.5 on a 9-point scale and a solo suitability of 5 on the same scale, where each unit represents a division of 2,000 to 8,000 men and every map space has a diameter of about one kilometer. Each turn corresponds to one hour of gameplay.
