Monster Max*

Monster Max is a fast real-time matching game from HABA for 2 to 4 kids aged 5 and up. Everyone rebuilds the same monster at once, and the best copy wins.

What's it about?

Monster Max keeps changing his look. Each monster card shows a new version made of five or six pieces. Every player has their own set of monster pieces and races to copy the picture. The game was designed by Patrice le Quérré.

How it plays

Each round follows the same pattern:

  1. Reveal a new monster card.
  2. Everyone searches their pieces at the same time and builds the monster.
  3. When you think you're done, slap the monster card to stop the round.
  4. Check every monster. The player with the most correctly placed pieces takes the card.

The first player to collect five monster cards wins. Watch every detail: which side of a piece faces up, where it sits, how it is turned and whether the monster has five or six pieces.

Who is it for?

  • Kids from 5 who enjoy spotting and comparing pictures
  • Families with fifteen minutes for something lively
  • Parents who like games that train observation and spatial thinking

Children who get upset under time pressure may need some patience at first.

Conclusion

Monster Max is a lively speed game with a clear goal. You can teach it in minutes, and a game lasts about 15 minutes. Kids who love picture puzzles and races will have a blast. If you want a calm, tactical family game, pick something else.
