Mythos*
Mythos is a collectible card game from 1996 set in H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu universe and built for several players.
What's it about?
You play an investigator who must complete stories without going insane. Each investigator has their own stats and special abilities. See too much horror, and madness sets in.
How it plays
You build a deck of at least 52 cards and draw 13. Players take turns laying down one card at a time, so the game moves briskly.
- Play cards to meet a story's conditions.
- Visit locations, call allies, and summon monsters.
- Score a story and regain sanity.
At the end of a round, monsters fight each other and then go after the investigators.
Card types
- Locations, allies, and monsters
- Events, spells, and artifacts
- Tomes and adventures
Who is it for?
This game suits fans of Lovecraft and collectible card games. The thick atmosphere and nasty phobias drive plenty of interaction. A German edition from Pegasus exists.
Conclusion
An atmospheric card game with real Lovecraft flavor. If you prefer something modern and lean, the design shows its age.
