Tricks*

Tricks is a trick-taking card game by Alan R. Moon for three to five players. It suits fans of classic card games who enjoy bidding and clever play.

What's it about?

A game runs over two hands. In each hand, players buy eight cards, place a bid, then play their cards and score. You can even buy cards from your opponents.

How it plays

The flow stays the same each round:

  1. Buy eight cards, even from rivals.
  2. Place a bid for how many tricks you take.
  3. Play your cards and collect the tricks.
  4. Score by the bid card.

Scoring

A bid card sets the value of a bid. Say you bid five and win three tricks. That falls in the allowed range, so you earn points.

The game offers:

  • Short games of about 30 minutes
  • Very light rules, fine from age 10

Conclusion

Tricks is a light, quick trick game for genre fans. Anyone after deep strategy will want more. Anyone who likes an easy card game for the family will be happy.
