Tüfteln*

Tüfteln is a fast roll-and-write from Reinhard Staupe and Jannik Walter, where everyone fills in numbers at the same time to build clever patterns.

What's it about?

Each player has their own sheet with a 3x3 grid of 2x2 squares. One player rolls two dice, and everyone marks the results at once. There is no waiting, and you are always in the game. After fifteen rounds, every space is filled.

How scoring works

You earn points for tidy patterns:

  • 1 point for four different digits in a square
  • 2 or 3 points for adjacent pairs
  • 5 points for four identical numbers
  • 6 points for a straight in clockwise order

Step by step

  1. One player rolls and calls out the result.
  2. Everyone writes the pips into two empty spaces.
  3. After fifteen rounds, each player totals their patterns.

Score all six pattern types and you gain a seven-point bonus.

Conclusion

Tüfteln is a light roll-and-write for the whole family. It is quick to teach and great for game nights. If you want deep strategy, look elsewhere.
