How the board game quiz works
Hit Start and the quiz opens in an arcade window. Each question has four answers that you tap, click or pick with the keys 1 to 4 (or A to D). The answer comes right away: green for right, red for wrong, plus a sentence or two on why the solution is correct. Many questions link to the matching game page in case you want to read up or give the game as a gift.
Answer several questions correctly in a row and you'll see the Combo counter climb. The color changes with every new level, and a “Level up” banner announces the next stage. Your browser generates the sounds itself in the style of old game consoles; mute them with the music note icon at the top right. Your best score is stored only in your browser, so you can try to beat yourself next time.
The five levels
The quiz gets harder with every stage. That makes it just as suitable for elementary school kids as for the parents who have been organizing every game night for years.
- Level 1 – Beginner: Rules from games most kids have played at some point.
- Level 2 – Board Game Fan: Family classics where you need to look more closely.
- Level 3 – Pro: Award winners from recent years and numbers around well-known party games.
- Level 4 – Expert: Release years, game designers and a game mechanic with a technical term.
- Level 5 – Final Boss: Game history and names that mostly seasoned gamers know.
Our tip for families: play in teams, kids against adults. The kids usually rack up the points in the first levels, and the grown-ups have to deliver at the Final Boss.
