Dead Cells: The Rogue-Lite Board Game*
Dead Cells: The Rogue-Lite Board Game is a cooperative dungeon adventure for 1 to 4 players that brings the acclaimed video game to the table. You explore an ever-shifting island, fight through infected hordes, and grow a little stronger with every death.
What is it about?
Just like the original, death is not an ending but a restart with more options. Each run carries you a bit further, from the Prisoners' Quarters up to the High Peak Castle and the infamous Hand of the King.
How it plays
- Move: Advance one space on the biome board, with path rules unique to each biome.
- Reveal: Flip the space's tile, from finding treasure to fighting monsters.
- Dead or alive? If anyone dies, the run ends. Otherwise, carry on.
What makes it tick
- Hundreds of weapons, mutations, and skills to unlock
- An island that reassembles itself on every run
- Tight sessions of around 45 minutes
Who it's for
For co-op groups aged 14 and up, best at two or three players, with a solo mode included. Its mechanics earned a 2024 Golden Geek Best Cooperative Game nomination.
Conclusion
A faithful, demanding board translation of the metroidvania classic, where failure is part of the deal. If you want predictable safety, you'll struggle. If you love clawing your way up the hard way, this delivers exactly that.
