Furnace Duel*

Furnace Duel is the two-player follow-up to the industry game Furnace: bid, build a network and run engines, either standalone or as a campaign across six boards.

What's it about?

As in the original Furnace, you compete for industrial dominance. You bid for Company cards and either win them or take compensation. Then you use your cards and manage resources to have the most money after four rounds.

What's different?

Compensation no longer sits on the Company cards. Instead, you claim routes on the board. The value of your disc shows how many times you can use the effects of connected cities, in any order.

  1. At first, only tracks leading from the card's own city are open.
  2. As your network grows, new tracks and richer cities come within reach.
  3. Cards can be upgraded with city effects.

Shipping companies are one-shot cards with a neutral brown disc printed on them. They count as a bid from a neutral player.

Campaign and boards

  • Six boards, each with special rules
  • Campaign points for wins and achievements
  • The runner-up gets a board-specific bonus for the next game

Conclusion

Furnace Duel is a tight two-player duel that keeps the heart of Furnace and adds depth through the route network. Couples who enjoy bidding and combo building will love the campaign. If you mostly play in bigger groups, stick with the original. Designed by Andrey Kolupaev and Ivan Lashin.
