Best games released at SPIEL 2026 in Essen

Looking for a really good game released at SPIEL Essen 2026? Then we have just the right thing for you: the list of the best new games from SPIEL 2026. The list keeps growing in the weeks after the fair as publishers ship their new titles to retail.

What is SPIEL?

SPIEL, also known as the Essen Game Fair or Internationale Spieltage, is the world's largest public fair for board games. SPIEL Essen 2026 runs from 22 to 25 October 2026 at Messe Essen, Germany. Hundreds of publishers from all over the world show their new releases there, many of them for the very first time, and at most booths you can try the games and buy them on the spot.

In German, this is called "Spiele die auf der Messe SPIEL 2026 in Essen vorgestellt wurden".

Notable games from SPIEL 2026

The big German publishers bring their autumn line-ups to Essen every year: KOSMOS extends the world of the Spiel des Jahres winner Cascadia with the standalone Cascadia: Alpine Lakes, Pegasus Spiele shows Kalypso, a game about building a floating settlement, and Dorfromantik: South Seas, and Feuerland Spiele has the expert game Greenwood in its luggage. On top of that come the titles the hobby has been talking about for months: the board game adaptation of Kingdom Come: Deliverance (HeidelBÄR Games), Gaudí (HUCH!), Thessaloniki (Giant Roc) and the expedition game -60° (dlp games).

Essen releases as Christmas gifts

Essen releases reach the shops right in time for Christmas: what is unveiled at the fair in October usually sits on the shelves by November, so a game from this list is a gift the recipient is guaranteed not to own yet. More suggestions are in our board game gift ideas for Christmas, the board game advent calendars cover the weeks before, and many of last year's releases are heavily discounted during Black Friday week 2026.

SPIEL from other years

Here are the new releases from SPIEL 2025 and SPIEL 2024; all other years are listed at the bottom of the page.
