Award ceremony across 4 YouTube videos, each covering 25 ranks

Public award instead of critics’ award

Unlike the Spiel des Jahres, the "Hunter & Friends Award🇩🇪" is not chosen by critics but by the public — specifically the Patreon supporters of the channel. For the 2021 cycle (Hunter & Friends Award 2022), there were 461 eligible voters as of the cutoff date on January 31, 2022.

All games ever published may be chosen

Each Patreon supporter may vote for their 10 favorite games of the previous year — the 2022 award therefore reflects the gaming year 2020. What matters is not the game category or release date, but whether the community considered the games significant that year. From all submitted Top-10 lists, the overall winner is then determined.

Who exactly are Hunter & Friends?

Hunter & Friends (formerly known as Hunter & Cron) are board-game enthusiasts who launched a YouTube channel in late 2013 to share their passion. The two founders, Hunter & Cron, lived in Berlin at the time, are a couple, and each has one son and one daughter. Since then, more than 1,000 videos have been created — and many more faces have appeared on the channel. The channel is one of the leading influencers among board-game fans and experts in Germany.

Cron announced a longer break at the beginning of 2022. Since then, Hunter has been continuing the channel under the name "Hunter & Friends."

All other “Hunter & Friends Award” years

The Hunter & Friends Award has been presented since 2017. Until 2019, it was still called the Hunter & Cron Patreon Award. We have compiled both an overview across all years and detailed lists by year, with the year overview provided at the bottom of the page.
