What is the "International Gamers Award"?

The "International Gamers Award" game award (IGA) was founded in 1999 with the express purpose of recognizing outstanding games, their designers and the companies that publish them. The awards have received widespread recognition and have helped bring these outstanding games to the public's attention.

The IGA Game Awards evolved from the Gamers' Choice Awards presented between 2000 and 2002.

Jury is international

Like the "Spiel des Jahres", the IGA is a jury award โ€“ but here it is explicitly international.

Focus strongly on strategy games

The focus of the award is on simulation and strategy games. The categories in which games are awarded the IGA are the following three:

  • Historical simulation
  • general strategy for two players
