The best "Kinderspiel des Jahres" game award winners and nominees 2026

We have picked out the games awarded with the german board game Award "Kinderspiel des Jahres". In our list we recommend only the best ones.

What is the "Kinderspiel des Jahres" Award?

The "Kinderspiel des Jahres" (Children's Game of the Year) is awarded every year from 2001 on by a five-member jury. Until then, there was the "Special Children's Game Prize", which was awarded by the Spiel des Jahres starting in 1989. In May of each year, the nominees are first announced โ€“ and in June, the winner "Kinderspiel des Jahres" is chosen.

The core target group for the award is children of kindergarten to elementary school age โ€“ in other words, children between the ages of 4 and 9. However, most of the games can also be played wonderfully by adults.

We have selected the best board games for you that were nominated for the Children's Game of the Year or won the title. In addition, we have also added the board games included on the "Recommendation List Children's Game of the Year".

All "Spiel des Jahres" years listed individually as well.

The Spiel des Jahres has been awarded since 1979. We have therefore created separate lists for all years, all award types (Spiel des Jahres, Kennerspiel, Kinderspiel) and all nominees:
