Moustache*

Moustache is a quick trick-taking card game for 3 to 6 players aged 10 and up where teams reshuffle every round. It works well for families and friends.

What's it about?

Alexandre Aguilar and Jules Messaud designed it, with animal art by Manu Gorobeï. Lumberjacks Studio published it first, and Pandasaurus Games handles the English edition. The hook is simple. Every round adds a new rule, and you never know who your partners are until the cards flip.

What's in the box?

  • Animal cards: 47 in total, valued 0 to 10 in four colors, plus three jokers (unicorn, monkey and pigeon).
  • Team cards: 6, plus 6 player aids.
  • Rule cards: 16, split into a white deck and a black deck.
  • Trophy tokens: 12.

How a round works

A game lasts four rounds and about 20 minutes. Each round goes like this:

  1. Reveal a new rule card. It stays active from now on.
  2. Shuffle and deal the team cards. Everyone flips at once to see their partners.
  3. Play tricks. Follow the led color if you can, otherwise play anything.
  4. Color rank decides first, then value. The strongest card takes the trick.
  5. Teams count the stars on their cards. Winners draw hidden trophy tokens.

White rules add restrictions, such as green stars counting against you. Black rules twist the core, for example by reversing the color order.

Conclusion

Moustache turns classic trick-taking into a loud, social puzzle that never sits still. Groups who enjoy shifting alliances and a bit of chaos will have a blast. Purists who like to count every card and plan ten tricks ahead may find it too random.
