Cascadia: Alpine Lakes*
Cascadia: Alpine Lakes is the standalone follow-up to Cascadia for 1 to 4 players aged 10+, where stackable tiles let your landscape grow upwards.
What's it about?
Games take 30 to 45 minutes. As in the original, you create the most diverse environment you can in the Pacific Northwest. Designer Randy Flynn keeps the familiar feel but adds a third dimension to the puzzle. Beth Sobel returns for the artwork.
A turn in three steps
- Pick a habitat tile and wildlife token pair.
- Add the tile to your landscape, or stack it on top of existing tiles.
- Place the animal somewhere it fits.
What's new compared with Cascadia?
- Every habitat tile is a double hexagon.
- Tiles can be stacked, which brings new height and adjacency challenges.
- Three alpine habitats each score in their own way.
- Lakes and wildlife earn points for being well surrounded and elevated.
- Habitat and environment scoring cards change the goal from game to game.
- Solo and campaign modes are included.
Conclusion
Alpine Lakes is aimed at players who love Cascadia and want a meatier puzzle without tipping into heavy-game territory. The rules stay lean, but stacking makes each choice trickier. If you found the original too solitary, this one won't change your mind: everyone mostly works on their own landscape.
