Genial Spezial*

Genial Spezial is Reiner Knizia's tile-laying classic in its tower version: a tactical game of clever connections for families aged 10 and up.

What is it about?

The game builds on the idea behind Ingenious but adds height. The board holds small and large towers in four colours. You place tiles to link towers and score points in every colour.

Here is the twist. At the end, only your weakest colour counts. So you have to score everywhere, not just in one shade.

How it plays

  1. Place one of your two-hex tiles on an empty space.
  2. Connect two or more towers and score points in the matching colour.
  3. Large towers grant bonus points in all four colours.

The game ends after 20 rounds. The player with the highest value in their weakest colour wins.

What is in the box?

  • Game board and 80 tiles
  • 24 towers and 24 tower number chips
  • 16 scoring markers and 4 score boards

Who is it for?

Genial Spezial suits families and casual players. The rules are quick to learn, yet the choices stay tricky. It shines best with four players.

Conclusion

Fans of abstract tile games get plenty of tactics in little time. Players who want story and theme will look elsewhere. A solid pick for family game night.
