Players attempt to surround "gold mines" (numbered cylinders) on an 8x5 grid. In each round, a player either places a numbered tile face down or lays down two fence segments, which define the borders of each claim, with each claim needing to be at least four spaces large. At the end, revealed stones determine the player with the highest total in each claim, with ties resulting in shared points; the player with the most mine points wins.
A variation introduces players as orcs, elves, wizards, and goblins hunting for dwarf gold. It adds advanced rules, including reinforcement tiles and special ability points. Instead of placing a warrior or building palisades, players can enhance an existing warrior's strength or utilize unique abilities, adding depth and strategy to the gameplay.
