Generations before you relied on the seas for survival. As the 19th century comes to a close, your fishing village in northern Norway faces changes and new opportunities. Players must decide whether to expand their settlement with new buildings, send their boats to fish, engage in trade, or introduce new technologies to improve daily life.

Saltfjord features variable elements in its setup, enhancing replay value, and involves players rolling dice to activate buildings for gaining resources and performing actions like advancing technology or fulfilling trade orders. Players' boards display a grid, where rolling a die activates all buildings in the corresponding row or column, while technology tracks unlock special abilities.
