Wars of the Roses: Lancaster vs. York*

Two Lancastrians and two Yorkists draw cards that grant them control over key cities, nobles, bishops, and royal castles. With the generated income, they can raise armies and bribe nobles, bishops, and ship captains to switch allegiances. Through secret planning and simultaneous actions, players strive to gain control over six regions in England and Wales, aiming to secure enough votes in Parliament to crown their royal heir as king.

Travel back to England in 1450, just before the outbreak of the fierce civil war between the Lancaster and York royal houses. Weak King Henry VI of Lancaster faces the ambitious Richard, Duke of York, who aims to restore order. Major noble families must choose sides, as over the next 40 years, kings, royal heirs, and prominent nobles will perish in what becomes known as the Wars of the Roses. Players take on the roles of Lancastrians and Yorkists, vying for the support of major cities and powerful noble families, while also seeking control of royal castles throughout the country. Ports, shipping, and financial aid from the Church and France are also essential. As their faction grows stronger, players compete for the favor of the king and aspire to prestigious titles. Money translates to power, as loyalty can be bought, and players must be prepared for inevitable betrayal when nobles switch sides at crucial moments, altering the balance of power. When Parliament is summoned, each region of England will support one or the other royal house, and the crown will be awarded to the house with the greater power base. Nobles loyal to that house will be rewarded by a grateful king. Ultimately, only one house will provide the king, but the player who accumulates the most wealth and prestige will win, regardless of their allegiance.
