Shogi*

Shogi originates from Japan and is played on a 9 x 9 board, where the goal is to capture the opponent's king. Unlike Western chess, not only pawns but almost all pieces can promote when they reach the opponent's last three rows. A unique feature is that captured pieces become the property of the capturing player, who can then reintroduce them to the board during their turn. This mechanic can result in longer games, with a crowded board and fewer simplifications toward the endgame, which typically offers many attacking opportunities and rare draws.
