Who is Doris Matthäus anyway?

Doris Matthäus has been designing dice, card & board games since 1989. The game designer is from Erlangen, Bavaria, Germany🇩🇪, was born in 1963 and currently lives in a suburb of Erlangen, Bavaria, Germany🇩🇪.

Matthäus's first game, Esels-Rennen ("Donkey Race"), she developed in 1989 at the age of 26 - so she's been designing games for over 35 years. Famous Matthäus games include Ursuppe, Mü & Mehr, or Frank's Zoo.

Married to a game developer

In 1992 she married the game developer Frank Nestel. With him she published many own games in the self-publishing company "Doris & Frank".

Mainly artwork designer

Doris is one of the top designers in the German board game scene. She has designed the artwork of three games of the year (Carcassonne, El Grande & Elfenland). In one year, she managed to design all four top winners of the German Game Prize "Deutscher Spielepreis 1998" (1st place, 2nd, 3rd and Kinderspielpreis).

Initially fully analog

Until 1995, she had nothing at all to do with computers. All her work was done with real paints on real canvases. Even after that, she designed a lot of artwork in analog and then scanned it.
