Who is Uwe Rosenberg anyway?
Uwe Rosenberg has been designing dice, card & board games since 1992. The game designer hails from Aurich, Niedersachsen, Deutschland🇩🇪, was born in 1970 and currently lives in Gütersloh, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Deutschland 🇩🇪.
Rosenberg's first game Marlowe & Times he developed in 1992 at the age of 22 - so he has been designing games for over 32 years. Famous Rosenberg games are for example Bohnanza, A Feast for Odin, Caverna & Agricola.
Game development while still in school
Rosenberg's first published games are Marlowe & Times. He developed these in 1992 at the age of 22 - so his games have been published for over 32.
Rosenberg, however, began working on game development and mechanics while he was still in high school. During this time, he published a series of play-by-mail games. Then, as an undergraduate, he published his best-known game, Bohnanza, with Amigo. Since graduating in statistics in Dortmund, Germany (topic of the diploma thesis: "Probability distributions in memory"), he has been mainly involved in game development.
Bohnanza already the breakthrough
He is best known for his card game Bohnanza, which is successful both in Germany and internationally. He also designed Agricola, A Feast for Odin or Caverna.
Founder of Lookout Games & Edition Spielwiese
In 2000 he founded the small publishing house Lookout Games together with some other authors. He published a number of expansions to Bohnanza, partly in collaboration with Hanno Girke. Larger projects were still published by other publishers such as Amigo and Kosmos.
Among other things, however, Uwe Rosenberg was also involved in the founding of Edition Spielwiese.
"Rosenberg Spiele" are not only card games
Rosenberg is known for developing innovative card game mechanisms. Another focus of his work is research-intensive games that focus on particular historical events and games that deal with stereotypes about men and women. Since 2005, he has focused on complex building games with an economic theme: his first such game, Agricola, was published in October 2007. The second game in this series, Le Havre, was published in October 2008.
