The best board game gifts for grandparents and seniors 2026
For grandparents and seniors a board game is judged differently than for the grandchildren: the rules should fit in a few sentences, the pieces should be big and easy to grip, the print readable and a game over after half an hour. We therefore curated this list by hand from our catalogue – from Qwirkle to Azul – and only show games that are in stock.
What we looked for
- Big tiles instead of small cards: Azul, Qwirkle, Rummikub and Ingenious are played with chunky tiles that are easy to see even with bifocals.
- Familiar mechanism, new game: Ticket to Ride, Kingdomino and Karuba build on domino and route laying as known from older games.
- Dice with decisions: Qwixx, Can't Stop and Las Vegas Royale are dice games with real choices but no rules overhead.
- For the whole family at the Christmas table: Just One, Dixit and Concept are communication games where grandchildren and grandparents play as equals.
What we left out on purpose
Reaction and dexterity games, games with lots of fine print and anything that needs an app. Not because seniors could not handle them, but because they are a risk as a gift. The one exception is Crokinole: a big wooden board, over 100 years old, where flicking is the only skill – expensive, but the gift the great-grandchildren will still use.
