The best flip & write games 🃏🖋 2024
Flip&Write games are (usually) small and handy card-based games 🃏🖋. Players draw cards and record their progress on sheets of paper or erasable boards. Another common factor is that marking decisions made in previous turns constrain a player's marking decisions in future turns.
Flip & Write games in a nutshell
- Instead of dice like in roll'n'-write games, flip-and-write games use cards for random events.
- The forefather of roll-and-write-games is Yahtzee. In the USA it was published as early as 1956. Since then many different types of games have appeared with many creative ideas.
- In contrast to Yahtzee (Once on your turn, you may roll the dice 3 times to make special combinations of dice. The goal is to achieve the highest possible score at the end. Risky decisions are provoked to win the game), modern embodiments of flip/roll & write games may involve more direct player interaction. Sometimes in the form of dice/card selection, but sometimes by being the first to trigger a particular event or by locking out other players.
- Often not only one player is active with their card event, but all players can take an action with it. The waiting time is therefore much shorter than with Yahtzee - especially with several people.
- Flip & Write games often contain an extra solo variant
