Abandoned gaming in youth

Rita played a lot of games as a kid and as a teenager, but when she grew up and started going to parties.... at some point she just didn't know anyone who played games anymore, so she stopped playing too.

Flash of inspiration brings her back to board games

One day, she felt like making a game – a flash of inspiration after being at a kid's birthday party. Once she had a game in mind, she talked to a friend who had contacts in the board game industry to find out how it worked, how to show prototypes to publishers, and so on.

YouTube as a new inspiration

As a result of these contacts, she had an initial rejection from a publisher. That was okay, though, because the game wasn't very good. After that, she started watching YouTube videos about new board games – and I couldn't believe her eyes. There were so many games she didn't know about.

As a result, she started playing games again. And as she played, she had new ideas. As those ideas got better and better, she put more time and effort into developing her own ideas. One of those eventually evolved into Men at Work.
