Who is Phil Eklund anyway?

Phil Eklund has been designing dice, card & board games since 1988. The game designer hails from USA🇺🇸 and after a long stint in Germany currently lives in Stockholm, Sweden 🇸🇪.

His son Matt Eklund is also active in the board game industry and has developed several games.

School, study & profession

After growing up in the U.S., Eklund graduated from Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix, Arizona in 1973. He then studied aerospace engineering at the University of Arizona. In 1978, he successfully completed his rocket science degree. He then first worked as an Aerospace Engineer at Hughes Aircraft Co./Raytheon Corp.

First own game then in 1988

Eklund's first games "Lords of the Sierra Madre" & "Trilobite: Family Game" he developed in 1988 - so he has been designing games for over 37 years of games. Famous Eklund games include Pax Porfiriana, Pax Renaissance & High Frontier.

Own board game company but also employed since 2020

In 1992 he founded game publisher Sierra Madre Games, which is still active today. But since March 2020 he is additionally employed by Swedish publisher Ion Game Design as senior game designer.
