History of Schmidt Spiele
The board game company "Schmidt Spiele" was founded by Josef Friedrich Schmidt in 1905. The current company headquarters is in München, Bayern, Deutschland🇩🇪. Founded as a family business
The publisher's logo used to consist of the founder's initials and the letter M, which stood for the company's location, Munich, Germany: J.F.S.M.
His son Franz Schmidt later ran a publishing house in Nuremberg, Franconia/Bavaria, Germany, under the logo F.S.N. (Franz Schmidt Nuremberg). The company first moved to Munich with F.S.M. (Franz Schmidt Munich) and then used the graphic logo with the twin spires of the Marienkirche (also called Frauenkirche), the Munich Cathedral.
After the death of Josef Friedrich Schmidt in 1948, the company in Munich continued J.S.F.M., which was run by his wife and daughter. In 1970, the two companies merged and the Schmidt games we know today moved to Eching, Bavaria, Germany.
Bankruptcy 1997 & Merger
