The board game company "Heidelberger Spieleverlag" was originally founded by Harald Bilz und Peter Gutbrod in 1991 (new established in 2019). The company headquarters at that time was in Walldürn, Baden-Württemberg, Germany 🇩🇪. The current company headquarters is in Miltenberg, Bayern, Deutschland🇩🇪. The debut game from Heidelberger Spieleverlag was "Neolithibum & Demontowers". The initial purpose was to publish their own games - then in the mid-90s they added distribution of games from hundreds of other publishers.

The game publisher is also known as Heidelbären.

By the end of 2016, Heidelberger Spieleverlag was a German partner of FFG, CGE, Iello, Ares, Indi Board & Cards, Cranio Creations, Horrible games, Gale Force Nine, Plaid Hat Games, PD Spiele, Galakta, Mesaboardgames, NSKN, Post Scriptum, Pearl Games, Albe Pavo, Ferti, Flying Frog Procuctions, Axel, Cwali, Jolly Thinker, Ulisses Spiele, MJ Games, Placentia Games, Black Box Games, Mantic, Le Scorpion Masqué, Blackrock Games, Truant Spiele, Stratelibri and many more. Short liaison with Asmodee

In early 2017, Heidelberger Spieleverlag merged with Asmodée, but this ended a short time later. The company now distributes its own games again under the name HeidelBÄR Games.

New foundation 2018

In 2018, HeidelBÄR Games was spun off as a games development studio. HeidelBÄR Games holds the rights to existing original titles from Heidelberger Spieleverlag and will develop new games. The current company headquarters is in Miltenberg, Bavaria, Germany 🇩🇪.
